BSWIR - TWU Neurologic Residency

Program information

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation’s residency in Neurologic Physical Therapy is a joint program with Texas Woman’s University. This accredited residency promotes excellent care in the lifespan of people who have suffered a neurologic injury. This intensive, 12-month program focuses on advanced clinical decision making and prepares the residents to provide the highest level of physical therapy for patients with neurologic injuries. The program is coordinated between several different Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation facilities and encompasses the continuum of care.

Program length: 12 Months, starting at the beginning of June each year

Salary: Residents will receive a salary as an employee of Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation equivalent to new graduate physical therapists.

Caseload: Based on the APTA description of residency practice. Residents will see patients with varying neurologic diagnoses in inpatient, outpatient and acute care settings.

Benefits: Residents are eligible for benefits as an employee of Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation. This includes, but is not limited to, employer-supported health insurance and paid time off.

Fees: Residents are expected to pay tuition for TWU courses. Prices will vary per year and whether the resident is in-state or out-of-state for tuition. Residents are expected to pay Neuroconsortium registration fee.

Residency eligibility requirements

• Must be licensed to practice physical therapy in Texas
• Must meet all requirements for admission to TWU school of Physical Therapy Graduate School prior to residency
• Strong academic education and background
• Clinical and/or work experiences in various neurologic settings
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Physical ability to perform examination and treatment procedures
• Strong skills in scientific inquiry and writing
• Psychological and social stability required for successful completion of the program
