Program information

This 12-month multi-site orthopedic residency is accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE). Select Medical’s board-certified specialists provide one-on-one mentoring with each resident in their own outpatient center. This arrangement provides the resident a clinical learning experience to their patient caseload.

Tuition is waived for full-time clinicians who commit to two years of employment with Select Medical’s Outpatient Division family of brands.

Mission

The mission of the Select Medical Orthopedic Residency Program is to provide an accessible and exceptional learning experience for the physical therapist. The program is designed to:

  • Accelerate professional development to provide exceptional, evidence-informed care in a patient-centered and empathetic environment.
  • Foster a servant-leadership role within the resident’s community and profession.

Comprehensive curriculum

Total program hours: 2,210

  • Over 300 educational hours
  • 152 hours of one-on-one mentorship, with over 100 hours directly with the patients
  • Skills labs throughout the year
  • Eight hours of orthopedic office observation
  • Community service projects
  • Case study with guidance from mentors

Program schedule

Typical weekly schedule:

Residents maintain a full-time working schedule (minimum 32 hours per week).

Mentors travel to the resident’s center 1-2 times per month with an average of 8-10 hours per month of direct one-on-one mentorship.

  • Number of graduates: 151
  • OCS exam pass rate: 90%

Participants will be recognized as full-time Select Medical employees throughout the program, provided they maintain good standing. This status includes eligibility for full-time employee benefits and full expected salary.
