Professional education and training

We facilitate clinician access to high-quality training. This allows clinicians to provide patients with the best possible care. We offer expansive training including evidence-based training materials that help therapists make clinical decisions based on best available evidence.

  • We offer more than 200 internal weekend programs annually across the nation. Select Medical waives its employee fee for these courses. These one- to two-day courses cover the wide range of outpatient rehabilitation. They give clinicians access to the latest evidence-based practice strategies and facilitate informed clinical decisions while continuing to develop hands-on skills.
  • Select Medical offers more than 100 accredited online courses covering all aspects of patient care.  Renowned national and international speakers have delivered these programs which are easily accessible from home. Initial classes are offered live, online allowing discussion with instructors. Classes are recorded for future use and accessible when convenient for the clinician. These classes act as a companion to our in-person offerings.
  • Select Medical and its joint venture partners offer residency programs in orthopedics, sports, women’s health and neurology. These year-long programs include didactic coursework, direct mentorship from board certified clinicians and access and support to study groups that help prepare clinicians for board certification.
  • Several markets nationwide offer Select Medical’s Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT) program. The program, created and delivered by Fellows of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, offers an industry-leading manual therapy and exercise training curriculum to participating clinicians. This program is also available to upper limb specialists as a one-year certification titled COMT-Upper Limb.
  • Clinicians are encouraged to pursue advanced certification in their area of interest. We offer year-long study groups and financial support to those committed to becoming board-certified specialists in orthopedics, sports, neurology and hand therapy. Study groups are hybrid experiences and Select Medical participants are eligible for reimbursement of testing fees after successful completion of the exam.
  • Clinicians have institutional access to more than 30 clinical and academic journals related to rehabilitation. Current and past articles can be viewed or downloaded on demand.
  • Select Medical offers more than 20 monthly special interest groups that cover all scopes of rehabilitation research. These virtual meetings provide focused conversations between experts and clinicians, and the latest research in practical application and patient care.
  • Clinicians receive a quarterly clinical newsletter providing rehabilitation information and case studies, helping readers stay current on developments in patient care.
  • Through an affiliation with Arcadia University, tuition assistance may be available to Select Medical clinicians who pursue their transitional doctorate of physical therapy with Arcadia.
  • Resources are made available to clinicians to stay current on the latest clinical care research. Those resources include Clinical Practice Guidelines, Clinical Prediction Rules, evidence-based practice materials, manual technique videos and special tests.
Whether you’re following a traditional or non-traditional path, discover the many areas of opportunity at Select Medical. Career paths aren’t always straight lines -- everyone charts their own course at their own pace.

From lymphedema therapist to occupational therapist

Tara Pearce, a member of Select Physical Therapy since 2019, is based in Los Angeles and works as an occupational therapist in our ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation program.

She decided to build her career with Select Physical Therapy because of the highly specialized training that was offered at no cost to employees. The fact that the training was on-site and taught by our own clinicians resonated with Tara, who values work-life balance while juggling professional growth with her role as a mother of two. The experienced faculty, which includes physical therapists, occupational therapists and oncology doctors, helped fill in knowledge gaps from her years as a lymphedema therapist.
