Job Description

SSM Health Day Institute in Bridgeton, MO is seeking a dynamic Per Diem, as needed, Physical Therapy Assistant to join our amazing team!! This position will float to multiple Day Institute locations as needed.

SSM Health Day Institute Program is a specialized outpatient rehabilitation program designed for individuals recovering from a traumatic injury or illness, who no longer require 24-hour nursing or acute rehabilitative care. Responsibilities

Assists the therapist in data collection including appropriate tests and measurements for initial evaluation and status updates, as directed by the therapist, within their scope of practice.

Assists in the implementation of the therapy plan of care for their assigned patients including performance of therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising therapist.

Progresses treatment techniques and procedures as patient’s status and functional potential changes in conjunction with the specific therapy plan of care designed by the supervising therapist. 

Identifies, responds and reports to supervising therapist any changes in the patient’s physical/mental status and/or tolerance to treatment. 

Under direction of supervising therapist, coordinates treatment program in conjunction with other clinical/therapeutic services, as well as available community resources.  Attends appropriate clinical meetings to facilitate coordination.

As delegated by supervising therapist, provides for patient education to include development of comprehensive and progressive home programs with instruction to patient, family and other caregivers as appropriate to facilitate a safe and effective discharge.

As delegated by the supervising therapist, prepares for patient discharge inclusive of ordering of/or fabrication and adaptation of necessary equipment, as well as recommendations for therapeutic services ensuring the continuum of care. 

Assists with direction of functional training classes and/or programs under the supervision of licensed therapist as assigned.

Assigns routine tasks to aides and clerical staff related to their job function in conjunction with supervising therapist.

Carries full patient caseload, ensuring management of patient schedule.  Notifies supervisor of schedule openings and concerns with caseload management.

Completes medical record documentation in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner and ensures accurate and timely charge entry using approved formats in conjunction with therapy supervisor, in compliance with state, federal and intermediary guidelines and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ensures care is provided under valid physician orders and within insurance approval, as indicated and necessary for clinical care of the patient.

Demonstrates flexibility, team building and active participation in departmental functions in order to promote an efficient and positive work environment.

Under the direction of supervising therapist, participates in therapy assistant student program as assigned and appropriate, providing a positive learning environment for therapy assistant program students with appropriate supervision. Will attend all student lectures, and begin developing public speaking skills required to facilitate student lectures.

Identifies and initiates own professional growth, actively pursuing professional development through continuing education, self study and involvement in professional activities and organizations. Participates in a minimum of one continuing education offering relevant to the strategic objectives of the organization and the professional development plan discussed with the manager.

Maintains communication with supervisor related to service needs such as necessary supplies, equipment and clinical training in order to effectively complete assigned duties.

Actively participates in patient and professional advocacy efforts that may include, lobbying activities, health fairs, community level events, professional memberships, and fundraising / charitable activities.

Adheres to discipline specific State Practice Act and other regulatory agencies.  Performs in an ethical manner in accordance with discipline specific professional code of conduct.

Performs other duties as requested. 

Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in a PT Assistant program required. 

Current and valid state licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant required.

        Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
