SSM Health Rehabilitation Hospital - Bridgeton Inpatient Hospital is looking for an As Needed Nutrition Assistant!

Performs diversified duties related to Food and Nutrition Department guidelines for menu implementation and maintenance of departmental office systems. Follows standard practices and complies with regulatory requirements.
In accordance with standardized recipes and menus, prepares and cooks meals for patients, employees, guests and special events. Selects quality ingredients for food preparation, ensures equipment utilized is clean and sanitized. Maintains a clean sanitary preparation and production environment. Monitors appropriate temperatures/time controls during the production of all food items.
Assures effective portion control and optimum utilization of leftovers. Ensures food items are properly cooled and stored.
Implements established policies and procedures for operation to achieve departmental goals and objectives and comply with regulatory requirements. Keeps Manager informed of activities, needs and problems. Evaluates operational performance and recommends changes whenever necessary to improve services, patient satisfaction, productivity and cost effectiveness.
Coordinates with other staff to develop and maintain effective working relationships and coordination of various functions of the department including storage, service, food preparation and production, clean-up and sanitation.
Completes the ordering of departmental items as assigned, which may include Raw Food items, Nutritional Supplements, Uniforms, and/or Small wares.
Participates in menu review and revision with the Dietary Manager and/or Dietician considering budget, nutritional needs, patient satisfaction and market changes.
Works with other food production personnel to prepare and cook meals; fulfills nutritional requirements for normal, therapeutic and other special diets as planned and prepares food for catering functions. Maintains recipe file and follows standardized recipes and portions sizes.
Assures compliance with regulatory requirements related to food handling complies with established HACCP protocols. Ensures temperatures are being met during receiving, storage, production, service and cooling. Maintains HACCP records. Assists with the care and maintenance of the equipment. Documents maintenance and care of equipment.
Participates in equipment planning during Capital Budget preparation.
Participates in appropriate meetings/seminars within and outside the
organization to enhance management skills, customer service practices, and to remain current on development in nutritional services and meet regulatory requirements.
Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen equipment. Detects and reports to supervisor any, problems/needs concerning equipment, food supplies and other conditions related to or affecting food production.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager, including evening and weekend shifts.
Performs other duties as requested.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent required.
Thorough knowledge of the culinary arts, including baking, cooking, salad preparation the procurement and storage of foodstuff required.
Serve Safe Certification or similar sanitary certification/training preferred.
