· Conducts on-going surveillance using NHSN definitions through review of admission diagnosis, microbiology results, physician orders, patient medical records and clinical staff discussion.
· Performs environmental rounds to identify processes associated with infection risk and applies knowledge to reduce these risks.
· Collects and interprets data to determine specific problem areas.
· Conducts analysis of data to include risk assessment, prevention and control strategies.
· Compiles and interprets surveillance reports to the Infection Control Committee and hospital staff.
· Directs investigations of clusters/outbreaks of hospital infections in consultation with Infection Control Committee, Divisional CNO/DQM, county/state health officials.
· Ensures appropriate precautions are in place to reduce infection risks including hand hygiene compliance, PPE compliance and appropriate signage is used as needed.
· Maintains Infection control log.
· Maintains all surveillance records.
· Ensures required reporting is done.
· Participates in quality improvement activities by assessing and measuring HAI rates and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.
· Participates in the Infection Control Committee, QAPI, and OIC.
· Investigates potential exposures and facilitates follow up for involved staff as required.
· Works with Human Resources and hospital leadership staff to maintain compliance with required testing and vaccination programs.
· Plans, organizes and presents Infection Control educational programs to all hospital staff.
· Conducts regular training sessions to ensure consistent implementation of Infection control policies and procedures using materials that are easily understood by both clinical and non clinical staff.
· Shares infection control outcomes with hospital staff through participation in staff meetings.
· Participates in new employee orientation and annual training.
· Serves as a resource to all hospital staff on all issues related to infection control and employee health.
· Maintains compliance with all Infection Control policies, procedures, rules, regulations and standards.
· Maintains Infection Control Survey Readiness Manual.
· Assists in all licensing/accreditation survey preparedness and surveys.
How you will be successful in this environment:
You will demonstrate an understanding of patient needs, ensuring that each patient feels informed and understood, as well as heard. You are passionate about providing superior quality care and you are an inventive problem solver who thrives in a dynamic environment.
- Having a current state licensure as a Registered Nurse, BSN preferred.
- At least one (1) year of infection control experience.
- CIC Certification preferred, particularly APIC Certification.
- Possessing a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Having a positive, compassionate and customer-service oriented attitude.
